About this clinic
The Informationsportal Kinderwunsch (fertility information portal) is not a fertility clinic in the clinical sense but an offering of the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ), based at Glinkastraße 24 in Berlin-Mitte. It is aimed at people who are involuntarily childless and are looking for orientation in the often confusing field of reproductive medicine. Psychosocial counseling is at the center: people affected can learn about the causes of involuntary childlessness, find counseling centers across Germany near them, and prepare for their own diagnostic and treatment planning. The platform explains which tests make sense for women and men, which of them can be repeated if necessary, and what a stepwise diagnostic workup can look like. A separate section is devoted to financial questions: using an interactive funding check with eleven questions, users can find out whether additional funding options exist in their respective German federal state (Bundesland). The offering is complemented by a podcast in which fertility psychologist Sally Schulze speaks with experts from medicine and counseling as well as with people affected. The portal does not replace medical treatment, but it offers a low-barrier starting point for couples and individuals who are dealing with the topic for the first time or who are looking for support after an unsuccessful treatment.
