Costs and funding

Statutory health insurance funds cover 50% of the approved costs for up to three IVF or ICSI attempts. To qualify, you must be married and use your own eggs and sperm, the woman must be at least 25 and under 40 years old, and the man must be at least 25 and under 50 years old. Some funds pay more under their bylaws. With private insurance, the individual contract decides.
North Rhine-Westphalia does not currently take part in the federal and state funding program for fertility treatment (as of October 2026). Whether additional funding is available depends on the German state you live in.
