Costs and funding
This section applies to Switzerland only.
In Switzerland, mandatory basic health insurance (Grundversicherung) covers only insemination (at most three cycles per pregnancy, with deductible and coinsurance) as well as medically necessary fertility preservation, for example before cancer treatment. IVF and ICSI are excluded, and supplementary insurance usually does not cover them either. The clinics set their own prices, so ask for a written cost estimate.
Legally speaking, egg donation is prohibited in Switzerland. Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) has been permitted under certain conditions since September 1, 2017.
