About this clinic
When all medical tests come back normal and a couple’s wish for a baby still goes unfulfilled, many couples ask whether psychological factors could play a role. This is exactly where David Gerhard’s work comes in. At his practice on Brüsseler Straße in central Cologne, the couples therapist and psychotherapist offers psychological counseling specifically for couples facing infertility. The approach rests on three methodological pillars: person-centered psychotherapy based on Carl Rogers, nonviolent communication based on Marshall Rosenberg, and depth psychology perspectives based on C.G. Jung. The central question is which unconscious parts, unspoken fears, or relationship dynamics may be contributing to the fact that a pregnancy has not yet occurred. The work takes place exclusively through therapeutic and coaching conversations, without medical procedures. The initial consultation serves as a detailed history-taking conversation: both partners describe their situation, and together a full picture is developed. Only then do couples decide at their own pace whether they want to continue with further counseling. Appointments are also available on Saturdays. The practice is aimed mainly at three groups: couples for whom doctors have found no physical reason for the absence of pregnancy; couples who have already gone through reproductive medicine procedures without success; and couples who deliberately do not want to pursue a medical path. Two Google reviews, each with five stars, describe successful outcomes after several weeks of counseling.

What patients report: Patients are impressed by the practice’s successful fertility treatment and comprehensive counseling sessions over several weeks. Particularly remarkable is that couples became pregnant through intensive counseling alone, without elaborate procedures such as in vitro fertilization. The high satisfaction and trust of patients are reflected in the positive results.
