About this clinic

For more than two decades, KinderwunschKiel has been an established presence in reproductive medicine in Schleswig-Holstein. The owner-operated practice in Kiel's Brewery Quarter is led by Dr. med. Angela Carstensen and Dr. med. Kirsten Schem, supported by specialist physician Dr. med. Thekla Schönherr and reproductive biologist Dr. sc. agr. Raphael Schütt, who heads the IVF lab. The results published by the German IVF Registry (Deutsches IVF-Register) and QS-Repromed are particularly meaningful: according to these independent sources, KinderwunschKiel is among the five most successful fertility clinics in Germany, measured by clinical pregnancy rate and live birth rate. More than 150 children are born each year through the practice. The treatment spectrum ranges from cycle monitoring and hormone testing through semen testing and fallopian tube examination without anesthesia to IUI, IVF, and ICSI. The practice explicitly treats same-sex couples and women who wish to become single mothers, and donor sperm is also used. For medically necessary or self-determined fertility preservation, the practice offers cryopreservation of eggs, sperm, and embryos, including elective egg freezing and cryoprotection before therapies that damage germ cells. Acupuncture based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine is also offered as a complement. Initial consultations are possible both on site and by video consultation. The practice works by appointment, values punctuality, and deliberately reserves enough time per consultation. Office hours are Monday through Friday mornings and on three afternoons per week.
