About this clinic
At Inselspital Bern, the University Department of Gynecology is one of the largest university gynecology clinics in Switzerland. Within the department, the fertility clinic is organizationally assigned to the area “Fertility and Hormones,” which, besides fertility treatment, also includes fertility preservation, hormone disorders, and the menopause clinic under Prof. Dr. Petra Stute. Stute is also president of the European Menopause and Andropause Society (EMAS) and represented Inselspital in 2026 as a medical expert in the European Parliament. An independent focus is the endometriosis center. It works on an interdisciplinary basis: the so-called Endo-Repro Board deals with cases in which endometriosis and a wish to conceive coincide, while the Endo-Pain Board concentrates on pain management. Regular workshops for professionals and public events such as the “Endometriosis Club” complement the clinical offering. For patients with complex peritoneal diseases, there is also a dedicated center for peritoneal diseases. The clinic’s range of services extends from obstetrics with prenatal diagnostics and neonatology through gynecologic oncology and the breast center to urogynecology and dysplasia evaluation. Psychosomatic support, nutrition counseling, physiotherapy, and social counseling are integrated directly into the clinic. Private consultations are offered by Prof. D. Surbek, Prof. M. Mueller, and Prof. M. von Wolff. The clinic is actively involved in clinical research. In the area of fertility and gynecological endocrinology, its own studies are underway for which participants are continually being sought. From late summer 2026, the women’s hospital will move into the renovated Marie-Colinet-Haus on the Inselspital campus. The Google rating is 3.3 out of 5 stars (based on 180 reviews), with both very positive feedback on the fertility team and critical voices on waiting time and communication.

Reviews from Google
What patients report: Patients praise the fertility team, the midwives, and the breastfeeding counseling for their professional expertise and warm care. Criticized, however, are waiting times, unfriendly behavior by individual staff members, and a lack of communication about patients’ wishes. Experiences differ markedly.
