213 to 223 mm
By the end of the week, the fetus is about the size of a pineapple with its crown. From head to heel, it measures about 32 centimeters.
Crown-rump length according to the values from Archie et al. 2006, weight according to the WHO growth charts. A pineapple with its crown is 280 to 350 mm long.
This week
Your baby
- The cerebral cortex continues to grow and forms deeper folds.
- Fine airways and blood vessels are forming in the lungs. They are still far from finished.
- From about now, premature babies are considered viable if they receive intensive care.
Your body
- The top of the uterus is now just above the navel.
- Burping and a feeling of fullness are common because the baby takes up space from the stomach.
- Tingling in the fingers can come from carpal tunnel syndrome. If the pregnancy is the cause, it often improves on its own.
What matters now
- In Germany, a glucose test for gestational diabetes is scheduled between 24+0 and 27+6. You do not need to fast for the first test.
- If the result is between 7.5 and 11.1 mmol/l, a second test with 75 g of glucose follows. For this, you must have fasted for at least 8 hours.
- In Austria and Switzerland, there is no preliminary screening test. There, the test with 75 g of glucose is done directly, while fasting.
Get checked right away: heavy bleeding, severe or persistent abdominal pain, fever, pain when urinating, or vomiting where you cannot keep anything down.
On ultrasound
- 24+0
Head circumference is on average about 222 mm.
- 24+0
Head diameter from temple to temple measures on average about 60 mm.
- 24+0
Thigh bone (femur) measures on average about 43 mm.
In the 25th week of pregnancy, no ultrasound paid for by health insurance is scheduled. A CTG is now only recorded if there is a risk of premature birth.
Frequently asked questions about the 25th week of pregnancy
Which month is the 25th week of pregnancy?
The first week of the 7th month of pregnancy, in the 2nd trimester. The 3rd trimester begins with the 29th week of pregnancy.
Can a baby survive in the 25th week of pregnancy?
Yes, and the chance rises markedly. In an analysis of international studies cited by the German guideline, about 60 out of 100 babies born in this week survived. From 24+0 and at least 400 g, life-sustaining treatment should, as a rule, be given in Germany.
How does the glucose test work in the 25th week of pregnancy?
In Germany, you first drink 50 g of glucose dissolved in water, and blood is taken an hour later. Below 7.5 mmol/l, the test result is normal. Health insurance pays for both tests, and you can also decline them. About 8 out of 100 pregnant women in Germany are diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
How often should the baby move in the 25th week of pregnancy?
There is no fixed number. What matters is the pattern you know from your baby. If it moves less or differently than usual, call your midwife or the hospital right away.
