About this clinic
Since 2015, the Kinderwunschzentrum an der Wien has run a treatment program specifically geared toward rainbow families. It was thus the first institute in Austria to establish such a focus in the same year the law permitted it. Since then, more same-sex couples have been treated here across Austria than at any other comparable facility in the country. The range is aimed primarily at female couples who want to have a child together. Available are insemination with donor sperm as well as IVF, including the so-called ROPA method (partner donation): One partner provides the egg, and the other carries the pregnancy. According to the clinic, this method is a routine treatment at the center. For donor selection, the center’s own sperm donor bank can be used; preferred donors from the couple’s personal circle, brought along by the couple, are also possible. Before treatment starts, there is an initial consultation of about one hour, in which preliminary test results are reviewed together and an individual treatment plan is created. In addition to the medical program, psychotherapeutic support, nutrition counseling, and alternative complementary therapies can be integrated. For getting started without having to travel, the center offers regular virtual rainbow webinars in which the team, the facilities, and the legal framework are presented. The center is part of the larger Kinderwunschzentrum an der Wien on Gumpendorfer Straße, 1060 Vienna, and is organized there as a Regenbogenzentrum (Rainbow Center) in its own right. In addition to treating same-sex couples, the service portfolio of the parent center also includes elective egg freezing, egg donation, TESE, and diagnostics for endometriosis and PCOS.
