About this clinic
Since 1984, the Bremen Center for Reproductive Medicine (BZF) has been treating couples facing infertility, which makes it one of the oldest fertility clinics in Germany. Founded by Prof. Dr. Ernst Heinrich Schmidt as the IVF department of DIAKO Bremen, the BZF was then among the first ten facilities of its kind in the country. The year 1995 brought a decisive step in development: Dr. Olaf Drost joined and brought his expertise in the then still new ICSI therapy from the Kinderwunschzentrum Dr. van Uem in Erlangen. As early as 1996, the first 173 ICSI treatments were carried out in Bremen. Today, Dr. Sebastian Grewe heads the center, which he has run together with Dr. Olaf Drost since October 2020. The range of services extends from cycle monitoring through intrauterine insemination (IUI) to IVF and ICSI. The way people are treated at the center is also regularly praised: several reviewers describe the team as empathic and thorough, even with a high patient volume. Dr. Grewe and Dr. Drost are mentioned by name, as is Dr. Kotzenberg, who is also part of the team. The BZF participates in the German IVF Registry (Deutsches IVF-Register, D.I.R.), which enables independent quality assurance of treatment outcomes.
