About this clinic
At the University Hospital Zurich (USZ), the fertility clinic is embedded in the women’s clinic, which means that complex cases can be coordinated directly with other specialty departments of the USZ. This applies, for example, to patients with endometriosis, where gynecologic evaluation and fertility treatment go hand in hand. The range of services covers the classic procedures of assisted reproduction: intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), and intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). The offering is supplemented by preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) as well as elective egg freezing, that is, the cryopreservation of eggs without a medical indication. For men, andrology diagnostics are available, including semen analysis and further examinations. The evaluation is clearly split into two tracks: for women, it includes hormone blood tests, ultrasound examinations, and, if needed, further diagnostics of the uterus and fallopian tubes. For men, a separate andrology consultation is available. Psychological counseling is listed as a fixed part of the offering, not as an optional add-on. Important for the question of cost: In Switzerland, mandatory basic health insurance covers certain evaluations, but not IVF or ICSI. The center provides transparent information about the out-of-pocket costs that arise. Anyone planning treatment should carefully review the cost side in advance. The center can be reached on its website at usz.ch/kinderwunsch and offers online appointment scheduling.

What patients report: Patients praise the team’s professionalism and friendliness. Others, however, criticize rushed care, poor communication, insufficient investigation of causes before IVF is offered, and poor responsiveness to complaints. Experiences vary widely.
