About this clinic
Anyone who has been waiting for a pregnancy for years and is looking for complementary medicine options will find a specialized point of contact at Dr. Andrea Kaffka’s Praxis VIA, in the heart of Munich, not far from the Viktualienmarkt. Dr. Kaffka is a physician of Chinese medicine with a doctorate (Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, China, 2009), a licensed alternative practitioner (Heilpraktikerin), an author, and, since 2005, a lecturer in Chinese gynecology. Her dissertation focused specifically on the further development of classical formulas after Zhang Zhongjing and their use in female infertility. She completed multi-year training in acupuncture and Chinese pharmacology with renowned teachers such as Barbara Kirschbaum, Volker Scheid, and Prof. Wu Boping. The practice centers on fertility treatment supported by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Specifically, Dr. Kaffka relies on Chinese medicinal herbs in the form of individually composed herbal teas, acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping, gua sha, and nutrition counseling based on the Five Elements. Diagnoses are made using Chinese methods: Pulse diagnosis, abdominal diagnosis, and tongue diagnosis form the basis, supplemented as needed by conventional medical lab values. A network of cooperating specialist physicians is available for questions of reproductive medicine, gynecology, or endocrinology. Patients with endometriosis, PCOS, hormone disorders, ovarian cysts, blocked fallopian tubes, or recurrent miscarriage are treated particularly often. Accompanying TCM treatment during ongoing IVF therapy is also part of the offering: According to the practice’s philosophy, the strength of Chinese medicine lies mainly in supporting the implantation phase and in reducing the psychological burden of assisted reproduction. Dr. Kaffka has also contributed her expertise to a professional book on fertility disorders from a TCM perspective, published by Hippokrates Verlag. A free preliminary phone call provides a first assessment of which TCM methods might make sense in an individual case.
