Herr Prof. Dr. Heribert Kentenich

Prof. Dr. med. Heribert Kentenich is one of the founding members of the Fertility Center Berlin, which was established in 1999 on Spandauer Damm in Berlin-Charlottenburg. His academic path goes back to 1967, when he began his medical studies at the Free University of Berlin. He dedicated his habilitation of 1989 to a topic that had received little attention until then: IVF treatment with special consideration of psychosocial aspects, a focus that has shaped his work ever since. Professionally, Kentenich is a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology (a specialist physician since 1984) and additionally earned the title in psychotherapy in 1999. This combination of reproductive medicine and psychotherapeutic qualification is comparatively rare among fertility specialists. From 2003 to 2009, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), the central European professional association in this field. Outside his clinical work, he is involved in several scientific and ethics bodies: he is a member of the working group of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina on a German Reproductive Medicine Act (Fortpflanzungsmedizingesetz), a member of the scientific advisory board of the von Behring-Röntgen Foundation, and a member of the Ethics Committee of the Berlin Medical Association. The Georg Klemperer Honorary Medal of the Berlin State Medical Association was awarded to him as a distinction.
