How we sort: featured profiles first, then alphabetically.

How to find the right fertility clinic

  • Range of services: Not every practice performs IVF or ICSI itself. Check whether the clinic offers the treatment that could be an option for you. The filters above help with this.
  • Reading success rates correctly: Ask for pregnancy rates and live birth rates for your age group, not for one overall figure. For comparison: according to the German IVF Registry (Deutsches IVF-Register, D.I.R.), the average clinical pregnancy rate at German centers in 2024 was 30.5% per embryo transfer in fresh cycles.
  • Transparency: Many German centers report their results to the German IVF Registry. Whether a clinic participates is shown in its clinic profile.
  • Costs and insurance: Before you start, ask for a written cost breakdown that includes medications and possible additional services. Which costs your health insurance fund covers is explained in the guide Fertility treatment cost.
  • Getting to the clinic: During ovarian stimulation, you often have to go in for monitoring several times at short intervals. A short distance therefore matters more than you might think.

Questions for the initial consultation

  • Which treatment do you recommend for us, and why?
  • What are the chances for our age group and our diagnosis?
  • How often will we need to come to the clinic during treatment?
  • Who is our dedicated point of contact, including on weekends?
  • What exactly does the treatment cost, and what additional costs could come up?

Warning signs

  • Promises of success instead of honest probabilities
  • Pressure to sign quickly
  • No figures for your age group
  • Expensive additional services without a clear justification

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a fertility clinic near me?
Enter your city or postal code above or tap “Near me.” The list is then sorted by distance. Large cities have their own overviews with a comparison of services, for example Berlin, Munich, Vienna, and Zurich.
What is the difference between a fertility clinic, a fertility center, and a fertility practice?
The terms are not protected and are often used interchangeably. Usually, a fertility center or fertility clinic means a facility with its own lab that performs IVF and ICSI itself. Fertility practices often offer diagnostics, cycle monitoring, and inseminations and work with a center for IVF.
Does health insurance cover the costs at every fertility clinic?

This section applies to Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

In Germany, statutory health insurance funds only accept billing from clinics that hold an authorization under Section 121a of Book V of the German Social Code (Sozialgesetzbuch V, SGB V), and then pay 50% for up to three IVF or ICSI attempts if the requirements are met. In Austria, the IVF Fund (IVF-Fonds) covers 70% for certain diagnoses, but only at contracted centers. In Switzerland, mandatory basic health insurance (Grundversicherung) does not pay for IVF.
Should we get a second opinion before deciding?
A second opinion makes sense for unusual diagnoses, very expensive treatment proposals, or after several unsuccessful attempts. It usually costs only one more consultation.
